Christmas Tag Pocket Book

This is a project that I've been wanting to make since it was demonstrated to us at Convention, by Shelli Gardner. I was so excited when I actually worked out how to do it! It's a Pocket Book, with a concertina section in the middle that stores a whole bunch of Christmas tags. The book and tags are made using the Winter Post stamp set, so have a nice vintage feel to them. I've teamed them up with Ski Slope paper, of course, so have chosen my colour scheme based on the DSP colours.

This is one of the projects that we'll be making at my upcoming "Christmas Bags & Tags" class, on November 20th. Please let me know if you'd like to join us!

Upcoming Christmas Card Class...

I'm holding a Christmas card stamp-a-stack at my place next Thursday, 5th November. Yes, that's right - next week it's November already. How are your Christmas cards going?

If you'd like to make 10 cards, 5 of each of these designs, then please come along to the class! The "Winter Post" card features the emboss resist technique, so if you'd like to learn how to do that then this is your opportunity. The square card uses some of my favourite Ski Slope paper, which is only available until the end of November!

my Brown Eyed Girl

Things I learnt about myself while making this Scrapbook page:

• I'm so much better working with paper than with a needle and thread.
• Hand stitching looks great, but takes a long time.
• Colouring in with watercolour crayons is very fun
• The flourish from "Baroque Motifs" is fairly fiddly to cut out.
• I love these ribbon flowers (shame they require some sewing!)
• This photo of Annabelle reminds me so much of my Dad that's it's uncanny
• I love this craft: creating layouts of memories that I can share with my children is wonderful.

A big thank you...

... to everyone who came to our Girl's Night In fundraiser last Saturday night. We had a great night; lots of stamping, creating, eating yummy food, and lots of people walking away with prizes. Together we've raised over $750, so again, thanks so much to everyone who attended or donated in any way!

Gum Tree Family

I've been really loving Scrapbooking recently, so I've got a few layouts to show you! This one uses the beautiful "BloomAway" stamp set, which I love because of the gorgeous images of Australian native flora. If you have little kids, then you might recognise the title as being taken from the Justine Clarke song - I don't know about you, but we always seem to link kids' songs to events in our life, so our visit to the Koala park was definitely like visiting the "Gum Tree Family".

The page is actually pretty simple in terms of layout, as I wanted to get a few photos on there but still have a clean looking page with some white space (or Sage Shadow space, as it is here!). My favourite part was watercolouring the gum blossom images, and of course enjoying the memory of how much fun Felicity and Emily had patting the Koalas and Kangaroos!

My dining table is literally covered with prizes - all these prizes that Stampin' Up! have generously donated for us to give away at the Girls' Night In fundraiser this Saturday night. A Kind Word

This sweet stamp set, A Kind Word, is the one that my 4 year old daughter chose for herself when the Stampin' Up! catalogue came out in April this year. As a result, I try to use it when I'm making birthday cards for her friends! It so reminds me of Holly Hobby swap cards that I had when I was little, so I do think it's very sweet.

For the background of this card, I've used baby wipes and reinkers, swiped over gloss cardstock, to get the stripey effect. I was pretty pleased with how the colours turned out!

Off to School...

I know that the school year is winding down here in Australia, but over in the US it's just kicking off. The theme for this month's So Shelli Creative Challenge  is Autumn/ Change/ School Starting type projects, and as my eldest girl is starting school next year, I had a project in mind that I wanted to make for her. So, the challenge was the impetus that I needed to begin the project, and it had to be posted before the end of September, so I've just scraped in!

 

Felicity's very excited about starting school, and I'm very excited, too! One of the things that I look forward to the most is her learning how to read - starting with "a, b, c" and hopefully progressing (not in her first year, but one day) to Austen and Shakespeare! So I decided to make her an alphabet book. Each page focuses on one letter, and I've put a couple of photos and a few words that are important to our family on each page. I've used the "Foundation" font that is the one she'll have to learn how to write for the NSW school system, and then I've scrapbooked the photo collage for each page.

 

 I chose 4 main colours and a couple of neutrals to use through the whole album to help simplify the process. The cover is acrylic, which I've decorated with some DSP and sparkly Sticky Cuts letters. I've used lots of ribbon and buttons, too, throughout the project, so that her book has a nice mixture of textures. I won't show you all 26 pages, but I think you probably get the idea!

Girls Night In

In honour of World Card Making Day, but even more importantly Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Carolyn, Ruth & I are teaming up to host a Girls Night In Craft Night. It should be heaps of fun, and all the proceeds will go towards the Cancer Council.

…How Will it Work?

 

On the night you’ll get to make some cards, tags and a 3D project. You’ll get to take home everything that you make, but all the proceeds will go towards the Cancer Council. There’ll be lots of games and prizes on the night as well – Stampin’ Up! have donated a huge boxful of stuff that we can’t wait to give away. Anyone can come along – whether you’ve done craft like this before or not!

 

Sounds like fun? Then come along! Even better, get a few friends together to form a table so that you can spend the evening with some of your favourite girl friends, helping out a good cause together!
